microgreens: What are they?
Microgreens are the seedlings of young edible vegetables and flowers. They are nutritious, simple, flavorful, and easy to incorporate into any meal. We offer single varieties such as micro broccoli, sunflower shoots and pea shoots, as well as custom mixes like our popular Hot and Healthy Mix and our Rainbow Mix, amongst others.
We use organic methods at our local farm in Oswego and deliver them within 24 hours of harvesting to our subscribers, restaurants, and cafes. We are passionate about localizing the food supply chain, and we believe in delivering your fresh, local produce to you as quickly as possible, so you receive the maximum nutritional benefits. Microgreens are filled with antioxidants, magnesium, vitamins, fiber, protein, and so much more. Not only are they extremely nutrient dense, but they also elevate any dish or recipe with no effort! Local farmers Sarah & Rachel are proud to bring their microgreens from their farm to your table.
The Organic Growing Process
Growing microgreens at our local farm ensures our customers get optimal nutritional benefits. Our vertical indoor farm allows us to grow local produce year-round. We grow using organic methods, sourcing the highest quality soil and seeds.
Standard varieties of pea shoots, sunflower shoots, micro radish, and micro broccoli are always available as well as custom blended mixes.

microgreens benefits
Microgreens benefits go beyond their delicate look and powerful flavor. They have a concentrated nutrient content since they are harvested at the start of the growing process. This means you only need to eat a little to receive the same benefits as an entire serving of the full-grown plant.
Best of all, our microgreens are grown and harvested near you, and delivered to you at the peak of freshness. Grown with organic methods and filled with essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin d, vitamin c, magnesium, fiber, and zinc, microgreens are known to be nutritional powerhouses with anti-inflammatory and have anti-cancer agents. We aim to feed and empower our community with locally grown food that supports a healthy and active lifestyle.
Homegrown Health Farms cares about its community and the importance of having access to local produce. We are a family-owned and operated small business located in Oswego, Illinois. Owned and operated by wives Rachel Trumbore and Sarah Campbell, we are excited to bring the nutritious and delicious world of microgreens to you and your family!

Microgreens: Recipes and Uses
A lot of people ask us how to use microgreens. Microgreens are way more versatile than you might think. When asked what to put microgreens on, we typically answer...everything!
First, they are very nutritious with a concentrated amount of essential vitamins, minerals, and protein compared to the full-grown plant. Micro broccoli, for example, has up to 40 times more nutrients than the fully-grown broccoli plant and has a fresh, mild flavor.
Microgreens are delicious and will add something special to any dish. All of the varieties have a delicate twist on the fully-grown plant. We provide recipes in our monthly newsletter and here on our website to help spark your culinary creativity.
Last but not least, microgreens are beautiful, colorful, and delicate. Many chefs simply use them as a garnish, but they can hold their own as a salad base, in an omelet, in pasta dishes, and more!
